The success of Nottingham Trent Women's Rugby in 2009-2010

24-03-10 Oxford Brookes 39 v 29 Trent

(BUCS Cup Final)

Unfortunatly for Trent we walked away with silver medals from the final, but well deserved medals for the whole of the team. We knew Oxford Brookes would be a very tough match as throughout their league they were also undefeated and in a very similar postition to us. Having worked hard up to this match and playing a tough varisty game many of our team were carrying injuries and in need of a rest, but we managed to switch on and putting this all behind us we played until the final whistle unfortunatly not being able to find those last two trys. We played one of our hardest games of rugby this year losing 39-29 on the pitch but every player and supporter put everything we had in to this match. As it was the last match for a few of our players a few tears were had. A special thank you to: Hannah dennison-white, Charlotte Brooks, Rosie Blackmore, Emma Hall, Hannah-jack and Jenny julian for all the effort they have put in this year on and off the pitch for many... you'll always be a part of our team so don't be strangers. We played like winners today girls so be proud to be part of this squad. A massive thank you goes out to Stu and Kenny for putting so much effort into this squad - we wouldnt be team we are now without you guys.

16-03-10 Trent 5 v 14 Nottingham

(Varsity Game)

Unfortunately varisty was the end to our winning streak this season, although we lost the game 14-5 we did not play like losers on that pitch. We dominated the whole of the second half just not having enough oppurtunitys in the game of catch up. The standard of competition was far higher from nottingham uni than from the league we have been playing in this year - and after our performance on the pitch i think we proved to ourselves and everyone else that we can play a good standard of rugby and deserve our place in the higher league next season. Our only try of the game came from our captain Lucy Lobley who dedicated a lot of her spare time for this match and generally this year. A lot of training and commitment to rugby was present in the weeks leading up to this game and i think the celebrations were well deserved. Thank you to our lovely water girls who kept us going through the match and all of our supporters. We went in to this match as the underdogs and from beestons interviews I think they under estimated us - they had to work hard for that win and losing by 9 points is nothing to put your heads down about. We may not be able to beat beeston on the pitch yet but 99% we can with our banter and in the bar (apart from i think it was their crazy captain who apprently can inhale pints- she's slightly scary) Well done girls and thank you for all your efforts... Next year!

10-03-10 Birmingham 5 v 68 Trent

(BUCS Cup Semi Final)

After beating BCU the week previous to this match in our last league fixture of the season, we had high hopes for a win and securing our place in the final of the cup. The first try of the game come from us trent girls working as a team to follow our patterns of play that coaches Stu and Kenny have been hammering into our heads for the past few weeks, making those first 5 points almost look effortless. This was a very strong game for Trent - BCU stepping up there game, but we played together as a team for a 68-5 win. Some awesome runs came from our inside centre Charlotte Seward who seems to be forever improving, forming a lovely two on one situation with our captain Lucy Lobley for a well deserved try. Kalia Hall had a stab at running fall back for part of the match - judging everything like a natural and seeming to be everywhere for the backs support. Winning this semi-final match raised a lot of spirits within the team - a well deserved win with a very solid game all around, having the oppurtunity to watch this match i think all the girls would agree with how much we have improved this season. We play like a team, we win as a team - with a few cheeky show and go try's from Michaela Kerrighan ;) . Well done girls we deserve our place in the final.

03-03-10 Trent 63 v 5 Birmingham

The Final League game of the season and Trent still undefeated with another strong win =) beating Birmingham city 63-5. Going into this game we were already clear winners of our league this season, but all of the team played there hearts out as we knew BCU are quite a strong team. A different approach was taken to this game by starting a majority of Freshers (some playing their first game this season - well done to those of you) and giving all the girls an opportunity to shine. Many of the girls starting in positions they've never played before but they all got stuck in and played strong BCU only scoring one try on us. A special mention to Poppy Horne who was thrown into Fallback and ran her heart out to try to be everywhere on the pitch. An awesome start to the game girls.

At half time the game got switched around, putting some fresh legs on the pitch and giving some of the older girls a bit of game time. A lovely try coming from our winger Jenny Julian, her first and not to be her last try for trent. The girls played hard for the second half of the match soon creeping the score up to 63-5 within only 30mins that the ref allowed us to play. Some big runs and hits came from Fran Eggleshaw relectantly playing the whole of the match but proving herself to stong too be taken off that pitch. Michaela Kerrigan was on a roll with her show and go's confusing the whole of BCU and much of our Trent girls.

Well done Girls you should all be very proud of yourselves, awesome season - Keep your heads strong its not quite all over yet!!!

(Cancelled)

Game Cancelled due to un-playable pitch conditions.

10-02-10 Harper Adams 7 v 43 Trent

Another strong game on wednesday from Trent women's rugby beating Harper Adams 43-7. This was our most cruicial match so far this year, a win guarnteeing our top place in the league this season - so a big congratulations to the whole team, including Stu and Kenny. This was by far our toughest match this year playing a strong team and battling the lovely snow and cold. Although our clean sheet of no try's conceeded against us was taken away in the first half of the game, we worked hard as a team to make sure it would only be the one. This match showed a big improvement from all our freshers to Rugby, mainting a very strong team when a few key players were taken off the pitch. Some stong handoff's came from Charlotte Seward making room for some big runs from our backs. A special mention to our new joiners Rachael and Paige, some great support from you both and great play from Rachel after only one training session.

03-02-10 Lincoln v Trent

(Walkover to Trent)

Walkover due to lincoln not having enough players available.

27-01-10 Trent v De Montfort

(Walkover to Trent)

Due to De Montfort's lack of players Trent took a walkour for this game. Fair play to De Montfort who turned up with 9 players so that we could still have a game. We swapped some of our own players and had a great game anyway.

 02-12-09 Birmingham 0 - 73 Trent

Wednesday brought yet another successful win for Trent Women's Rugby, against Birmingham city, with a 73-0 score. This was the toughest game so far for Trent this season, however the girls managed to pull through with some great defensive lines and excellent tackles, it is clear how much the girls have all really come on this term! Both teams played a brilliant game, however Trent pulled through making them undefeated this term. The first try was scored by number 3 Nikki Hudson, who throughout the game was there at every tackle or break down, and in every game is a great support player. Other players who scored in the match were Jessica Irvine who scored a total of 5 trys, Fran Eggleshaw and Lucy Lobley, Kalia Hall, Charlotte Seward and Michaela Kerrigan scored their first trys for Trent in the game too. Michaela Kerrigan also converted 3 trys throughout the match and Samantha Kirk tried kicking for the first in the game which turned out to be very successful as she too converted 3 trys. Charlotte Seward was giving Dame of the Match for her excellent play, she has really improved over the last year and throughout the game did some awesome tackles. Star of the match was given to Samantha Kirk, she too has really improved this year, she can be heard on the pitch more than ever, and tried out kicking for the first time in the match. All the girls played really well, the tackles were great as usual and well done to everyone who tried out new positions on the pitch, despite the fact that everyone was tiring towards the end, the team pulled together in the last minutes and really worked together. A big thank you to Kenny for Refereeing the match for us.

Well done girls, have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Trent women's rugby had their third consecutive win of the season on Wednesday, with a 44-0 score against Harper Adams. First try of the game was scored by Nikki Hudson who shone throughout the match, demonstrating forceful hand offs, and some fantastic runs. After 60 minutes the team tried out some different positions putting Nikki at 10, causing havoc at breaking through the Harper Adams defensive line. Fran Eggleshaw was given dame of the match for her excellent play, she too had some brilliant runs, great tackles as well as being a great support player and made a high percentage of turnover's for the team. Emma Wells had a brilliant game and for her efforts was given star of the match. Other players who stood out in the game were Emma Hall who has changed position to second row this season and enjoying it more than ever. As well as Lucy Lobley who did some fantastic tackles. Lucy Lobley, captain for the second year running, led the Trent Women's Rugby team to their second successful match of the season in a 43-0 win against De Montfort.
The team which consisted of mainly freshers had a brilliant game with some great tries from Nikki Hudson, Marian Gobin , Hannah Jack, Lucy Lobley and Jessica Irvine.
